عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ شِهَابِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ الْأَعْرَجِ،
أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ لَقِيَ سَعْدًا، فَقَالَ: " أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟ " فَقَالَ: أَغْزُو، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: " ارْجِعْ إِلَى صَاحِبِكَ يَعْنِي يَعْلَى بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ، فَإِنَّ عَمَلًا بِحَقٍّ جِهَادٌ حَسَنٌ، فَإِذَا صَدَّقْتُمُ الْمَاشِيَةَ لَا تَنْسَوُا الْحَسَنَةَ، وَلَا تُنْسُوهَا صَاحِبَهَا، ثُمَّ اقْسِمُوهَا ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ يَخْتَارُ صَاحِبُ الْغَنَمِ ثُلُثًا، ثُمَّ اخْتَارُوا مِنَ الثُّلُثَيْنِ الْبَاقِيَيْنِ "، قَالَ سَعْدٌ: فَكُنَّا نَخْرُجُ نُصَدِّقُ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ، وَمَا مَعَنَا إِلَّا سِيَاطُنَا
Translation
✧ Umar b. al-Khattab met Sa'd and said: "Where do you intend to go?" He replied: "I am going on a military expedition." Umar said to him: "Return to your companion, meaning Ya'la b. Umayya, for a rightful deed is a good jihad. When you collect zakah from livestock, do not forget the good deed, and do not make its owner forget it. Then divide it into three parts, and the owner of the sheep chooses one third, then you choose from the remaining two thirds." Sa'd said: "We would go out to collect zakah and return with nothing but our whips."
