✧ Rinsing the Mouth After Eating Fruit and What Fire Has Touched

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: أَكُنْتَ مُتَوَضِّئًا مِنَ اللَّحْمِ وَغَاسِلَ يَدِكَ مِنْ أَثَرِهِ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ قُلْتُ: بِأُشْنَانٍ أَوْ بِمَاءٍ ؟ قَالَ: بَلْ بِالْمَاءِ، إِنَّمَا الْأُشْنَانُ شَيْءٌ أَحْدَثُوهُ، قُلْتُ: أَفَرَأَيْتَ الْوَدَكَ سَمْنًا، أَوْ رُبًّا، أَوْ وَدَكًا أَكَلْتَ مِنْهُ أَكُنْتَ غَاسِلَ يَدِكَ مِنْهُ، أَوْ مُتَمَضْمِضًا ؟ قَالَ: لَا، قُلْتُ: فَمِنْ خُبْزٍ وَحْدَهُ ؟ قَالَ: وَلَا أُمَضْمِضُ مِنْهُ وَلَا أَغْسِلُ يَدَيَّ
Translation
✧ I said to Ata: Would you perform ablution after eating meat and wash your hands of its traces? He said: Yes. I said: With soapwort or with water? He said: With water; soapwort is something they have innovated. I said: What do you think about grease – clarified butter, sirup, or fat – that you have eaten from: would you wash your hands of it or rinse your mouth? He said: No. I said: What about bread alone? He said: I would not rinse my mouth from it nor wash my hands.
