عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: حُدِّثْتُ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَنْطَلِقُ بِطَوَائِفَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ إِلَى دَفْنَى بَقِيعِ الْغَرْقَدِ، فَيَقُولُ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُبُورِ، لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مِمَّا نَجَّاكُمُ اللهُ مِمَّا هُوَ كَائِنٌ بَعْدَكُمْ " ثُمَّ يَلْتَفِتُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ وَفِيهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْأَفَاضِلُ فَيَقُولُ: " أَنْتُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ هَؤُلَاءِ ؟ " فَيَقُولُونَ: نَرْجُو أَنْ لَا يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِنَّا، هَاجَرْنَا كَمَا هَاجَرُوا وَجَاهَدْنَا كَمَا جَاهَدُوا، فَيَقُولُ: " بَلْ هُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْكُمْ، قَدْ مَضَوْا وَلَمْ يَأْكُلُوا مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْئًا، وَإِنَّكُمْ تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْ أُجُورِكُمْ، فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ قَدْ مَضَوْا، وَقَدْ شَهِدْتُ لَهُمْ وَإِنِّي لَا أَدْرِي مَا تُحْدِثُونَ بَعْدِي
Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to go out with groups of his companions to the burial ground of Baqiʿ al-Gharqad and say: "Peace be upon you, O people of the graves. If you only knew from what Allah has saved you and what is to come after you." Then he would turn to his companions—among whom that day were the most virtuous—and say: "Are you better or are these?" They would say: "We hope they are not better than us; we migrated as they migrated and we strove as they strove." He would say: "Rather, they are better than you. They have passed on and have not eaten anything of their rewards, while you are eating of your rewards. These have passed on, and I have testified for them, and I do not know what you will bring about after me."
