Translation
✧ She said: “Shall I not tell you about myself and the Prophet ﷺ?” We said: “Yes.” She said: “When it was my night, he turned over, placed his sandals by his feet, and laid down his cloak until he spread the edge of his lower garment over his bed. He remained only as long as he thought I had fallen asleep. Then he slowly put on his sandals and slowly took his cloak. I put my shift over my head and veiled myself, then wrapped myself in my lower garment and followed his tracks until he came to al-Baqīʿ. He raised his hands three times and prolonged his standing. Then he turned away and I turned away. He quickened his pace and I quickened mine. He jogged and I jogged. He ran and I ran, and I overtook him and entered. No sooner had I lain down than he entered and said: ‘What is with you, O ʿĀʾishah, that you are out of breath and panting?’ I said: ‘Nothing.’ He said: ‘Will you tell me, or the Subtle, the All-Aware will inform me?’ I said: ‘O Messenger of God, may my father and mother be your ransom,’ and I told him the matter. He said: ‘Were you the dark figure I saw in front of me?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ She said: He poked me in the chest with a poke that hurt me, then said: ‘Did you think that God and His Messenger would treat you unjustly?’ I said: ‘Whatever people conceal, God knows it. Yes.’ He said: ‘Gabriel came to me when you saw, and he would not enter upon you while you had taken off your clothes. He called me but concealed it from you. I answered him and concealed it from you, thinking you had fallen asleep. I disliked waking you and feared you would feel lonely. He ordered me to go to the people of al-Baqīʿ and ask forgiveness for them.’” She said: I said: “How should I say?” He said: “Say: Peace be upon the inhabitants of these dwellings, among the believers and the Muslims. May God have mercy on those of us who have gone before and those who come later. And we, if God wills, shall join you.”
