✧ Patience, weeping, and wailing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، وَالثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ قَالَ:
كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَأَرْسَلَتِ ابْنَةُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ ابْنَتِي تُقْبَضُ فَأْتِنَا، فَأَرْسَلَ: يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكِ السَّلَامَ وَيَقُولُ: إِنَّ لِلهِ مَا أَخَذَ، وَلَهُ مَا أَعْطَى، وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عِنْدَهُ بِأَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى، فَلْتَصْبِرْ وَلْتَحْتَسِبْ " فَأَرْسَلَتْ تُقْسِمُ عَلَيْهِ لَيَأْتِيَنَّ، قَالَ: فَقَامَ، فَقُمْنَا، وَمَعَهُ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ وَأُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ وَسَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ قَالَ: فَأَخَذَ الصَّبِيَّةَ وَنَفْسُهَا تَتَقَعْقَعُ فِي صَدْرِهَا فَدَمَعَتْ عَيْنَاهُ، فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا هَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ: " هَذِهِ رَحْمَةٌ جَعَلَهَا اللهُ فِي قُلُوبِ عِبَادِهِ، وَإِنَّمَا يَرْحَمُ اللهُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الرُّحَمَاءَ
Translation
✧ We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ, and the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ sent a message that my daughter is dying, so come to us. He sent back: 'He conveys peace to you and says: Indeed, to God belongs what He takes, and to Him belongs what He gives, and everything with Him is for a specified term. So let her be patient and seek reward.' She sent back swearing that he should come. He said: So he stood up, and we stood up, and with him were Mu'adh b. Jabal, Ubayy b. Ka'b, and Sa'd b. 'Ubadah. He said: He took the child while her soul was rattling in her chest, and his eyes shed tears. Sa'd said, 'O Messenger of God, what is this?' He said, 'This is mercy that God has placed in the hearts of His servants. Indeed, God shows mercy to those of His servants who are merciful.'
