✧ Those Who Said One Does Not Perform Ablution from What Fire Has Touched

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:
كُنَّا مَعَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي بَيْتِهِ فَقَرَّبَ لَنَا طَعَامًا وَنُودِيَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ: إِذَا حَضَرَ هَذَا فَابْدَءُوا بِهِ فَأَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: أَلَا نَتَوَضَّأُ ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ لَهُ: قَالَ يُقَالُ: الْوُضُوءُ مِمَّا مَسَّتِ النَّارُ قَالَ: مَا زَادَهُ النَّارُ إِلَّا طِيبًا، وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمَسَّهُ النَّارُ لَمْ تَأْكُلْهُ قَالَ: ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا عَلَى طِنْفِسَةٍ - أَوْ عَلَى بِسَاطٍ - قَدْ طَبَّقَ بَيْتَهُ
Translation
✧ We were with Ibn Abbas in his house, and he brought food near to us, and the call to prayer was given. He said: When this is present, begin with it. So the people ate, and some of them said: Should we not perform ablution? Ibn Abbas said to him: It is said: Ablution is from what fire has touched. He said: Fire only increases it in goodness. If fire had not touched it, you would not eat it. He said: Then he led us in prayer on a carpet - or a mat - that covered his house.
