✧ Recitation and supplication in the prayer over the deceased

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ بْنَ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ يُحَدِّثُ ابْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ:

السُّنَّةُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْجَنَائِزِ أَنْ يُكَبِّرَ، ثُمَّ يَقْرَأَ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثُمَّ يُخْلِصَ الدُّعَاءَ لِلْمَيِّتِ، وَلَا يَقْرَأُ إِلَّا فِي التَّكْبِيرَةِ الْأُولَى، ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمَ فِي نَفْسِهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ

Translation

✧ The Sunnah in the funeral prayer is that one says the takbir, then recites the Mother of the Quran, then sends prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ, then sincerely supplicates for the deceased. One does not recite except in the first takbirah, then one greets quietly to one's right.
