✧ The takbir over the funeral

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الْهَجَرِيِّ قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى صَلَّى عَلَى بِنْتٍ لَهُ فَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهَا أَرْبَعًا، ثُمَّ قَامَ سَاعَةً فَسَبَّحُوا بِهِ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّكُمْ تَرَوْنَ أَنِّي أُكَبِّرُ خَمْسًا، وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَبَّرَ أَرْبَعًا، قَالَ: ثُمَّ رَكِبَ مَعَهَا، وَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ لِقَائِدِهِ: لَا تُقَدِّمْنِي أَمَامَهَا، وَجَعَلَ النِّسَاءُ يَبْكِينَ، فَقَالَ: لَا تَرْثِينَ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ " كَانَ يَنْهَى عَلَى الْمَرَاثِي
Translation
✧ I saw ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Awfā pray over a daughter of his and say four takbirs over her, then he stood for a while and they said subḥān Allāh to him, so he said, “You think I will say five takbirs, but I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say four.” He said, “Then he rode with her, and he began saying to his guide, ‘Do not put me in front of her.’ The women began weeping, and he said, ‘Do not lament, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid elegies.’”
