Translation

✧ If you can, let none of you go out on the day of Fitr until he eats something; let him do so. He said: I have never failed to eat before going out since I heard that from Ibn 'Abbas. I eat from the edge of a sarifah. We said to him: What is a sarifah? He said: Thin bread, a morsel, or I drink some milk, nabidh, or water. I said: How do you interpret this? He said: I heard him say—I think on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ—: "They would not go out until the forenoon had extended, and they would say: 'We eat so that we do not hurry away from the prayer.'" He said: Sometimes I would go out having tasted nothing but water.
