عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ قَالَ:
سَمِعَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، بِقَوْمٍ يَخْرُجُونَ إِلَى الْبَرِّيَّةِ مَعَهُمْ قَاصٌّ يَقُولُ: سَبِّحُوا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، وَلَقَدْ فَضَلْتُمْ أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ عِلْمًا، أَوْ لَقَدْ جِئْتُمْ بِبِدْعَةٍ ظَلْمَاءَ، وَإِنْ تَكُونُوا قَدْ أَخَذْتُمْ بِطَرِيقَتِهِمْ، فَقَدْ سَبَقُوا سَبْقًا بَعِيدًا، وَإِنْ تَكُونُوا خَالَفْتُمُوهُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَلْتُمْ ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا، عَلَى مَا تُعَدِّدُونَ أَمْرَ اللهِ
Translation
✧ Ibn Mas'ud heard of people going out to the desert with a storyteller who said: Glorify Allah. Then he said: "I am 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud. You have surpassed the companions of Muhammad ﷺ in knowledge, or you have brought a dark innovation. If you follow their way, they have gone far ahead; if you oppose them, you have gone far astray. What are you enumerating of Allah's command?"
