عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ قَالَ: لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ قَالَ:
بَلَغَ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّ قَوْمًا يَقْعُدُونَ مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ إِلَى الْعِشَاءِ، يُسَبِّحُونَ يَقُولُونَ: قُولُوا كَذَا، قُولُوا كَذَا، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: " إِنْ قَعَدُوا فَآذِنُونِي بِهِمْ، فَلَمَّا جَلَسُوا آذَنُوهُ، فَانْطَلَقَ إِذْ آذَنُوهُ، فَدَخَلَ، فَجَلَسَ مَعَهُمْ، وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْنُسٌ، فَأَخَذُوا فِي تَسْبِيحِهِمْ، فَحَسَرَ عَبْدُ اللهِ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ الْبُرْنُسَ، وَقَالَ: أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، فَسَكَتَ الْقَوْمُ، فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ جِئْتُمْ بِبِدْعَةٍ ظَلْمَاءَ، أَوْ لَقَدْ فَضَلْتُمْ أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ عِلْمًا " قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ: مَا جِئْنَا بِبِدْعَةٍ ظَلْمَاءَ وَمَا فَضَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ عِلْمًا، فَقَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ: أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ يَا ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ، قَالَ: فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَتَفَرَّقُوا، وَرَأَى ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ حَلْقَتَيْنِ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْكُوفَةِ، فَقَالَ: " أَيَّتُكُمَا كَانَتْ قَبْلَ صَاحِبَتِهَا، فَقَالَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا: نَحْنُ، قَالَ لِلْأُخْرَى: تَحَوَّلُوا إِلَيْهِمْ، فَجَعَلَهَا وَاحِدَةً
Translation
✧ It reached 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud that some people sat from Maghrib until 'Isha', glorifying Allah and saying: Say such-and-such, say such-and-such. 'Abdullah said: "If they sit, inform me about them." When they sat, they informed him. He went when they informed him, entered, and sat with them wearing a burnus. They began their glorification. 'Abdullah uncovered the burnus from his head and said: I am 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud. The people fell silent. Then he said: "You have brought a dark innovation, or you have surpassed the companions of Muhammad ﷺ in knowledge." A man from Banu Tamim said: We have not brought a dark innovation, nor have we surpassed the companions of Muhammad ﷺ in knowledge. 'Amr b. 'Utbah b. Farqad said: I seek Allah's forgiveness, O Ibn Mas'ud, and I repent to Him. He said: He ordered them to disperse. Ibn Mas'ud saw two circles in the mosque of Kufah and said: "Which of you was before its companion?" One of them said: We were. He said to the other: "Move over to them," and he made them one.
