✧ Delivering the Sermon While Standing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْعَاصِ يَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا بِالْأَرْضِ مُسْتَنِدًا إِلَى الْبَيْتِ لَيْسَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ جُلُوسٌ، لَا قَبْلُ وَلَا بَعْدُ، خُطْبَةً وَاحِدَةً، حَتَّى سَقِمَ خَالِدٌ فَكَانَ يَجْلِسُ عَلَى سُلَّمٍ " قَالَ: وَكَذَلِكَ كَانُوا يَخْطُبُونَ قِيَامًا بِالْأَرْضِ إِلَّا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَى مِنْبَرِهِ
Translation
✧ I saw Khalid b. al-'As delivering the sermon standing on the ground, leaning against the House, with no sitting in that, neither before nor after — a single sermon — until Khalid fell ill, and then he would sit on a ladder. He said: Thus they used to deliver sermons standing on the ground, except the Prophet ﷺ on his minbar.
