Translation
✧ Umar prayed for rain at the prayer place and said to al-Abbas, 'Stand and pray for rain.' Al-Abbas stood and said, 'O God, You have clouds, and You have water, so spread the clouds, then send down water into them, then send it down upon us. Strengthen thereby the roots, make the crops grow tall, and make the udders flow with milk. O God, accept our intercession for ourselves and our families. O God, we have interceded with You on behalf of those who cannot speak, for our beasts and cattle. O God, give us a gentle, ample, covering, general, life-giving rain. O God, we desire none but You alone, with no partner. O God, we complain to You of the hunger of every hungry one, the debt of every debtor, the starvation of every starving one, the nakedness of every naked one, and the fear of every fearful one'—in his supplication.
