عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ:
خَرَجَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَسْتَسْقِي بِالنَّاسِ، فَمَا زَادَ عَلَى الِاسْتِغْفَارِ حَتَّى رَجَعَ فَقَالُوا: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مَا رَأَيْنَاكَ اسْتَسْقَيْتَ قَالَ: " لَقَدْ طَلَبْتُ الْمَطَرَ بِمَجَادِيحِ السَّمَاءِ الَّتِي تُسْتَنْزَلُ بِهَا الْمَطَرُ: ﴿فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا ﴾﴿يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا ﴾﴿وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ ﴾﴿اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوا إِلَيْهِ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا وَيَزِدْكُمْ قُوَّةً إِلَى قُوَّتِكُمْ ﴾
Translation
✧ Umar b. al-Khattab went out to seek rain with the people, and he did no more than seek forgiveness until he returned. They said: O Commander of the Faithful, we did not see you seek rain. He said: I sought rain by the means of heaven through which rain is brought down: 'And say: Seek forgiveness of your Lord; indeed He is ever Forgiving. He will send the heaven upon you with abundant rain, and extend you with wealth and sons.' 'Seek forgiveness of your Lord; then turn to Him. He will send the heaven upon you with abundant rain and add strength to your strength.'
