✧ At what distance may prayer be shortened

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ:

سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ: أَقْصُرُ الصَّلَاةَ إِلَى عَرَفَةَ ؟ قَالَ: " لَا "، قُلْتُ: إِلَى مِنًى ؟ قَالَ: " لَا، وَلَكِنْ إِلَى جُدَّةَ، وَإِلَى عُسْفَانَ وَإِلَى الطَّائِفِ، فَإِنْ قَدِمْتَ عَلَى أَهْلٍ لَكَ أَوْ عَلَى مَاشِيَةٍ فَأَتِمَّ الصَّلَاةَ

Translation

✧ I asked Ibn 'Abbas: 'Should I shorten the prayer to 'Arafah?' He said: 'No.' I said: 'To Mina?' He said: 'No. But to Jeddah, to 'Usfan, and to al-Ta'if. If you arrive at family of yours, or at livestock, then complete the prayer.'
