✧ At what distance may prayer be shortened

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ:
سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ فَقُلْتُ: أَقْصُرُ الصَّلَاةَ إِلَى عَرَفَةَ أَوْ إِلَى مِنًى ؟ قَالَ: " لَا، وَلَكِنْ إِلَى الطَّائِفِ وَإِلَى جُدَّةَ، وَلَا تَقْصُرُوا الصَّلَاةَ إِلَّا فِي الْيَوْمِ التَّامِّ، وَلَا تَقْصُرْ فِيمَا دُونَ الْيَوْمِ، فَإِنْ ذَهَبْتَ إِلَى الطَّائِفِ أَوْ إِلَى جُدَّةَ أَوْ إِلَى قَدْرِ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ، إِلَى أَرْضٍ لَكَ أَوْ مَاشِيَةٍ فَاقْصُرِ الصَّلَاةَ، فَإِذَا قَدِمْتَ فَأَوْفِ
Translation
✧ I asked Ibn 'Abbas, saying: 'Should I shorten the prayer to 'Arafah or to Mina?' He said: 'No. But to al-Ta'if and to Jeddah. And do not shorten the prayer except in a full day's journey. Do not shorten in less than a day. If you go to al-Ta'if, or to Jeddah, or to a similar distance of land, to land of yours or to livestock, then shorten the prayer. And when you arrive, then complete it.'
