أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعْدٍ الْأَعْمَى، يُخْبِرُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ السَّائِبُ، مَوْلَى الْفَارِسِيِّينَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ،
نص إضافيأَنَّهُ رَآهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، وَهُوَ خَلِيفَةٌ رَكَعَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، فَمَشَى إِلَيْهِ فَضَرَبَهُ بِالدِّرَّةِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي كَمَا هُوَ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ زَيْدٌ: اضْرِبْ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، فَوَاللهِ لَا أَدَعُهُمَا أَبَدًا بَعْدَ إِذْ " رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّيهِمَا " قَالَ: فَجَلَسَ إِلَيْهِ عُمَرُ، وَقَالَ: يَا زَيْدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، لَوْلَا أَنِّي أَخْشَى أَنْ يَتَّخِذَهَا النَّاسُ سُلَّمًا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ حَتَّى اللَّيْلِ لَمْ أَضْرِبْ فِيهِمَا
Translation
✧ Umar b. al-Khattab, while he was caliph, saw him [Zayd b. Khalid] praying two rak'as after Asr, and he walked over to him and struck him with the whip while he was still praying. When he finished, Zayd said: "Strike me, O Commander of the Believers, for by Allah I will never abandon them after I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray them." He said: "So Umar sat down beside him and said: 'O Zayd b. Khalid, were it not that I feared the people would take them as a means to pray until the night, I would not have struck you for them.'"
