عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، أَوْ غَيْرِهِ:
أَنَّ شُرَيْحًا، كَانَ يَؤُمُّ قَوْمَهُ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنْ حُجْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ مَا كَانَ، فَإِنَّهُمُ اتَّهَمُوا شُرَيْحًا فِي أَمْرِهِ، فَلَمَّا تَقَدَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِهِمْ قَالُوا: تَأَخَّرْ، فَقَالَ: أَكُلُّكُمْ عَلَى هَذَا ؟ " قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَاسْتَأْخَرَ شُرَيْحٌ
Translation
✧ Shurayḥ used to lead his people in prayer. When the affair of Ḥujr b. ʿAdī took place, they suspected Shurayḥ concerning his matter. When he stepped forward to lead them in prayer, they said: “Step back.” He said: “Are all of you upon this?” They said: “Yes.” So Shurayḥ stepped back.
