✧ The people who gather: who should lead them

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ الزُّبَيْدِيِّ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
أَحَقُّ الْقَوْمِ أَنْ يَؤُمَّهُمْ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالسُّنَّةِ، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي السُّنَّةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ سِنًّا، وَلَا يُؤَمَّنَّ رَجُلٌ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ، وَلَا يُقْعَدُ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لَكَ
Translation
✧ The most entitled of the people to lead them is the one who recites the Book of Allah best. If they are equal in recitation, then the most knowledgeable in the Sunnah. If they are equal in the Sunnah, then the one who made hijrah earliest. If they are equal in hijrah, then the eldest. And no man should lead another in his sphere of authority, nor sit on his seat of honor in his house except with his permission.
