✧ The people who gather: who should lead them

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالسُّنَّةِ، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْعِلْمِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ سِنًّا، وَلَا يُؤَمُّ رَجُلٌ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ، وَلَا يُجْلَسُ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ بِذَلِكَ
Translation
✧ The people should be led by the one who recites the Qur'an best. If they are equal in recitation, then the one who made hijrah earliest. If they are equal in hijrah, then the most knowledgeable in the Sunnah. If they are equal in knowledge, then the eldest. And no man should lead another in his sphere of authority, nor sit on his seat of honor in his house except with his permission.
