✧ The rulers who delay the prayer

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ:
أَخَّرَ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ الصَّلَاةَ مَرَّةً، فَأَمَرَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَثَوَّبَ بِالصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ تَقَدَّمَ فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ الْوَلِيدُ: مَا صَنَعْتَ ؟ أَجَاءَكَ مِنْ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ حَدَثٌ أَمِ ابْتَدَعْتَ ؟ قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ: وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ، وَلَكِنْ أَبَى عَلَيْنَا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَنْ نَنْتَظِرَكَ بِصَلَاتِنَا وَأَنْتَ فِي حَاجَتِكَ
Translation
✧ Al-Walid b. 'Uqbah delayed the prayer once, so Ibn Mas'ud ordered the muezzin and he called the iqamah for prayer, then he came forward and led the people in prayer. Al-Walid sent to him: What have you done? Has something come to you from the Commander of the Faithful, or have you innovated? Ibn Mas'ud said: None of that happened, but God and His Messenger refused that we wait for you with our prayer while you are busy with your need.
