✧ The imam's shortening of the prayer

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا أَمَّرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ لَهُ فِي قَوْلٍ مِنْ ذَلِكَ: اقْدُرِ النَّاسَ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ، النَّحْوُ مِنْ هَذَا الْخَبَرِ، وَإِذَا كُنْتَ وَحْدَكَ فَطَوِّلْ مَا شِئْتَ
Translation
✧ When the Prophet ﷺ appointed Uthman b. Abi al-As, he told him, among other things: "Gauge the people by their weakest, for among them are — the like of this report — and when you are alone, prolong as you wish."
