عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ:
كُنَّا نُسَلِّمُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَيَرُدُّ عَلَيْنَا، فَلَمَّا جِئْتُ مِنْ أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَلَمْ يَرْدُدْ عَلَيَّ، فَأَخَذَنِي مَا تَقَدَّمَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ، ثُمَّ انْتَظَرْتُهُ فَلَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ يُحْدِثُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا، وَإِنَّهُ قَضَى - أَوْ قَالَ: أَحْدَثَ - أَنْ لَا تَكَلَّمُوا فِي الصَّلَاةِ
Translation
✧ We used to greet the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying and he would return our greeting. When I came from the land of Abyssinia and greeted him, he did not return my greeting. I was seized by what is past and what is to come. Then I waited for him, and when he finished his prayer I mentioned that to him. He said: 'Allah brings about ease in His command, and He has decreed'—or he said 'He has brought about'—'that you should not speak during prayer.'
