عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي يَزِيدَ الْمَدَنِيِّ قَالَ:
حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ، مِنَ الصَّيَّادِينَ الَّذِينَ يَكُونُونَ فِي الْجَارِ، وَكَانَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يُرْزَقُونَ مِنَ الْجَارِ، فَوَجَدَ حَبًّا مَنْثُورًا فَجَعَلَ عُمَرُ يَلْتَقِطُهُ حَتَّى جَمَعَ مِنْهُ مُدًّا، أَوْ قَرِيبًا مِنْ مُدٍّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَلَا أَرَاكَ تَصْنَعُ مِثْلَ هَذَا، وَهَذَا قُوتُ رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ حَتَّى اللَّيْلِ قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، لَوْ رَكِبْتَ لِتَنْظُرَ كَيْفَ نَصْطَادُ ؟ قَالَ: فَرَكِبَ مَعَهُمْ فَجَعَلُوا يَصْطَادُونَ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: تَاللهِ إِنْ رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ كَسْبًا أَطْيَبَ - أَوْ قَالَ: أَحَلَّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: فَصَنَعْنَا لَهُ طَعَامَا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنْ شِئْتَ سَقَيْنَاكَ طَعَامًا، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ مَاءً فَإِنَّ اللَّبَنَ أَيْسَرُ عِنْدَنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ، إِنَّا نَسْتَعْذِبُ مِنْ مَكَانِ كَذَا، قَالَ: فَطَعِمَ، ثُمَّ دَعَا بِالَّذِي أَرَادَ، ثُمَّ قُلْنَا: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّا نَخْرُجُ إِلَى هَاهُنَا فَنَتَزَوَّدُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ لِشَفَتِنَا، ثُمَّ نَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ فَقَالَ: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَأَيُّ مَاءٍ أَطْهَرُ مِنْ مَاءِ الْبَحْرِ ؟
Translation
✧ A man told me, one of the fishermen who are in al-Jar, and the people of Madinah used to be provisioned from al-Jar. He found scattered grain, and 'Umar began picking it up until he gathered a mudd or nearly a mudd from it. Then he said: Do I see you doing such a thing, when this is the sustenance of a Muslim man until nightfall? He said: I said to him: O Commander of the Faithful, if only you would ride to see how we fish. He said: So he rode with them, and they began fishing. 'Umar said: By God, I have never seen a livelihood more wholesome — or he said: more lawful — than today. Then he said: We prepared food for him, and I said: O Commander of the Faithful, if you wish we will give you food to drink, or if you wish water, for milk is easier for us than water; we fetch fresh water from such-and-such a place. He said: So he ate, then he called for what he wanted. Then we said: O Commander of the Faithful, we go out here and take provisions of water for our lips, then we perform wudu from sea water. He said: Glory be to God! What water is purer than sea water?
