✧ Prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمُجْمِرِ، مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:
أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَلَسَ مَعَنَا فِي مَجْلِسِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ بَشِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَهُوَ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ أَمَرَنَا اللهُ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْكَ فَكَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ: فَصَمَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْنَا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: قُولُوا: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، وَالسَّلَامُ كَمَا قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ
Translation
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came to us and sat with us in the gathering of Saʿd b. ʿUbādah. Bashīr b. Saʿd, who is Abū al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr, said to him: God has commanded us to pray for you, so how should we pray for you? He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ remained silent until we wished he had not asked him. Then he said: "Say: O God, bestow prayer upon Muḥammad and upon the family of Muḥammad, as You bestowed prayer upon Abraham; and bless Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad, as You blessed the family of Abraham among all the worlds. Truly You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And the greeting of peace is as you have learned."
