✧ What Is Said After the Tashahhud

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَحَّافِ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ:
سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْإِمَامِ قَالَ: " يُكَبِّرُ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، ثُمَّ يَتَعَوَّذُ سِرًّا، وَيَقْرَأُ بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سِرًّا، ثُمَّ يَجْهَرُ بِ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ، ثُمَّ يُكَبِّرُ وَهُوَ يَهْوِي، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُكَبِّرُ وَهُوَ يَهْوِي، ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ فِي الْأُولَيَيْنِ لِلتَّشَهُّدِ، وَلَا يَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِ، وَفِي الْأُخْرَيَيْنِ التَّشَهُّدُ، وَخَمْسُ كَلِمَاتٍ جَوَامِعَ " قَالَ الثَّوْرِيُّ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَنْصُورٌ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ: الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: " مَا كَانُوا يَزِيدُونَ عَلَيْهِنَّ
Translation
✧ I asked him about the imam. He said: "He says the takbir, then says: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and with Your praise,' then seeks refuge quietly, and recites 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' quietly, then recites aloud 'Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.' Then he says the takbir as he goes down [into ruku'], then rises and says the takbir as he goes down [into sujud]. Then he sits in the first two [rak'ahs] for the tashahhud and does not add to it. In the last two [rak'ahs] there is the tashahhud and five comprehensive words." Al-Thawri said: Mansur informed me, saying: I said to Ibrahim: "The prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ?" He said: "They would not add to these."
