machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ I said to Ata: "May I sit cross-legged between the two rak'ahs while I am young?" He said: "Yes." I said: "I want to sit cross-legged before the tashahhud." He said: "Do not do so until you have performed the tashahhud. Once you have performed it, then sit cross-legged or sit with your legs drawn up or do whatever you wish. If you do it before the tashahhud in an obligatory prayer, prostrate the two prostrations of forgetfulness. In a voluntary prayer, if you do it, do not prostrate." He said: "What I prefer is that you perform the tashahhud tucking your left side under you and erecting the other, sitting in iq'a on it, with its toes in the dust, like the sitting of Ibn Umar." I said: "Then should I place my left hand like that before the tashahhud?" He said: "No, and I do not like that."
