✧ A Lizard Dying in Fat

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أُخْبِرْتُ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ،
أَنَّ وَزَغًا مَاتَ لَهُمْ، فَلَتُّوا بِهِ سَوِيقًا فَشَرِبَ مِنْهُ، ثُمَّ أُخْبِرَ بِالَّذِي كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ عَلِمْتُمْ ؟ قَالُوا: لَا، فَصَفَّقَ بِيَدَيْهِ وَقَالَ: بِيعُوا السَّمْنَ وَالسَّوِيقَ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَهْلِ دِينِكُمْ، وَبَيِّنُوا لَهُمُ الَّذِي كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ قَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِهِ: أَلَا نَسْتَسْرِجُ بِهِ ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى إِنْ شِئْتُمْ
Translation
✧ A gecko of theirs died, and they mixed sawīq with it, and he drank from it. Then he was told of what had happened. He said: Did you know? They said: No. He clapped his hands and said: Sell the butter and the sawīq to people not of your religion, and make clear to them what had happened. One of his family said: Should we use it as lamp fuel? He said: Yes, if you wish.
