machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: ʿAbd al-Karīm narrated to me, from Saʿīd, whose father was a servant of Ḥudhayfah b. al-Yamān, and he informed him from Ḥudhayfah b. al-Yamān that he
✧ He passed by the Prophet ﷺ one night while he was praying in the mosque in Madinah. He said: 'I stood to pray behind him, and it seemed to me that he did not know. He began Sūrat al-Baqarah. I said: "When he reaches one hundred verses, he will bow." He reached it but did not bow. I said: "When he reaches two hundred verses, he will bow." He reached it but did not bow. When he finished it, he would bow. He finished it but did not bow. When he finished, he said: "O God, to You belongs praise; O God, to You belongs praise," an odd number of times. Then he began Āl ʿImrān. I said: "If he finishes it, he will bow." He finished it but did not bow, and said: "O God, to You belongs praise," three times. Then he began Sūrat al-Māʾidah. I said: "When he finishes, he will bow." He finished it and bowed. I heard him say: "Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent," and he moved his lips, so I knew he was saying something else. Then he prostrated, and I heard him say: "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High," and he moved his lips, so I knew he was saying something else, but I could not understand anything besides that. Then he began Sūrat al-Anʿām, so I left him and went away.'
