Translation

✧ Samurah b. Jundub used to lead the people in prayer and he would pause twice: when he said the takbir for the prayer, and when he finished reciting the Opening of the Book. The people criticized him for that, so he wrote to Ubayy b. Ka'b about it, saying that the people had criticized him, and “I forgot and they remembered, or I remembered and they forgot.” Ubayy wrote back to him: “Rather, you remembered and they forgot.” Al-Hasan used to say: “When the imam finishes reciting the Opening of the Book, then you recite it yourself.”
