عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنِ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ قَالَ:
كُنْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ، فَصَلَّى بِنَا الْفَجْرَ، فَقَرَأَ: ﴿أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ ﴾، وَ ﴿لإِيلافِ قُرَيْشٍ ﴾، ثُمَّ رَأَى أَقْوَامًا يَنْزِلُونَ فَيُصَلُّونَ فِي مَسْجِدٍ، فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُمْ فَقَالُوا: مَسْجِدٌ صَلَّى فِيهِ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ أَنَّهُمُ اتَّخَذُوا آثَارَ أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ بِيَعًا، مَنْ مَرَّ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْمَسَاجِدِ فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَلْيُصَلِّ وِإِلَّا فَلْيَمْضِ
Translation
✧ I was with Umar between Makkah and Madinah, and he led us in Fajr. He recited: "Have you not seen how your Lord dealt" and "For the security of Quraysh." Then he saw some people stopping and praying in a mosque. He asked about them, and they said: "A mosque where the Prophet ﷺ prayed." He said: "Those before you were destroyed only because they took the relics of their prophets as places of worship. Whoever passes by any mosque and the prayer time comes should pray; otherwise, let him move on."
