قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ: وَأَخْبَرَنِي عُبَادَةُ
أَنَّهُ كَانَ عِنْدَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ فِي خِلَافَتِهِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ لِقَيْسٍ: كَيْفَ أَخْبَرْتَنِي عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ ؟ فَحَدَّثَهُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: مَا تَرَكْنَاهَا مُنْذُ سَمِعْنَاهَا، وَإِنْ كُنْتُ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ لَعَلَى غَيْرِ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: وَعَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ: " كُنْتُ أَقْرَأُ ﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ ﴾
Translation
✧ He was with Umar b. Abd al-Aziz during his caliphate, and Umar said to Qays: How did you inform me about Abu Abd Allah? He narrated to him, and Umar said: We have not left it since we heard it, though before that I had been otherwise. A man said: And upon what was the Commander of the Faithful before that? He said: I used to recite Say: He is Allah, the One.
