أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ يَقُولُ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ:
مَا لَكَ تَقْرَأُ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ بِقِصَارِ الْمُفَصَّلِ ؟ وَقَدْ " كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ بِطُولَى الطُّولَيَيْنِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: وَمَا طُولَى الطُّولَيَيْنِ ؟ قَالَ: " الْأَعْرَافُ "، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ: وَمَا الطُّولَيَانِ ؟ قَالَ: فَكَأَنَّهُ قَالَ: مِنْ قِبَلِ رَأْيِهِ: " الْأَنْعَامُ، وَالْأَعْرَافُ ".
Translation
✧ Why do you recite the short ones of the mufassal in Maghrib? The Prophet ﷺ used to recite in the Maghrib prayer the longer of the two long ones. He said: I said: What is the longer of the two long ones? He said: Al-A'raf. He said: I said to Ibn Abi Mulaykah: What are the two long ones? He said: It was as if he said, from his own opinion: Al-An'am and Al-A'raf.
