machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ I said to Ata': Does it suffice for me in every rak'ah to recite 'Inna a'taynaka al-kawthar' (Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar) without the Umm al-Qur'an in the prescribed prayer? He said: No, nor Surah al-Baqarah. He said: 'Wa laqad ataynaka sab'an mina al-mathani' (And We have certainly given you seven of the oft-repeated verses). He said: It is the seven. I said: Where is the seventh? He said: 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim', and he regards the Umm al-Qur'an as obligatory in every rak'ah.
