عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ:
أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ صَلَّى بِالْمَدِينَةِ لِلنَّاسِ الْعَتَمَةَ، فَلَمْ يَقْرَأْ: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، وَلَمْ يُكَبِّرْ بَعْضَ هَذَا التَّكْبِيرِ الَّذِي يُكَبِّرُ النَّاسُ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ نَادَاهُ مَنْ سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالُوا: " يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ، أَسَرَقْتَ الصَّلَاةَ أَمْ نَسِيتَ ؟ أَيْنَ: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ؟ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ حَتَّى تَهْوِيَ سَاجِدًا ؟ " فَلَمْ يَعُدْ مُعَاوِيَةُ لِذَلِكَ بَعْدُ
Translation
✧ Mu'awiyah led the people in the evening prayer in Madinah, and he did not recite 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim,' nor did he say some of the takbirs that the people say. When he finished, those of the Muhajirun and Ansar who heard that called out to him and said: "O Mu'awiyah, did you steal the prayer or forget? Where is 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim' and 'Allahu akbar' until you go down in prostration?" Mu'awiyah never did that again.
