✧ Wiping Away Pebbles

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: كَانَ يُنْهَى عَنْ مَسْحِ التُّرَابِ لِلْوَجْهِ ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، وَيُقَالُ: " إِذَا رَأَيْتَ شَيْئًا تَكْرَهُهُ فَأَخِّرْهُ "، قُلْتُ: أَيُّ شَيْءٍ ؟ قَالَ: " قَدْ سَمِعْنَا ذَلِكَ، وَأَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ أَنْ لَا تَمْسَحَهَا "، قُلْتُ: أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ مَسَحْتُ ؟ قَالَ: " فَلَا تَعُدْ، وَلَا تَسْجُدْ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ ".
Translation
✧ I said to Ata': "Was it forbidden to wipe away dust from one's face?" He said: "Yes." And it is said: "If you see something you dislike, then postpone it." I said: "What thing?" He said: "We have heard that, and it is more beloved to me that you do not wipe it." I said: "What do you think if I wiped?" He said: "Then do not do it again, and do not prostrate the two prostrations of forgetfulness."
