✧ A Man Reaches a Group While They Are in a Voluntary Prayer, and He Has Not Yet Prayed the Evening Prayer

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
سَأَلَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى عَطَاءً قَالَ: آتِي النَّاسَ فِي الْقِيَامِ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ: وَقَدْ بَقِيَتْ رَكْعَتَانِ قَالَ: " فَاجْعَلْهُمَا مِنَ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ "، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ: أَرَأْيًا ؟ قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، رَأْيًا "، قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ: وَكَيْفَ وَهُمْ فِي تَطَوُّعٍ، وَأَنَا فِي مَكْتُوبَةٍ ؟ قَالَ: " الْجَمَاعَةُ
Translation

machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Ibn Jurayj, who said:
✧ Sulayman b. Musa asked 'Ata': I come to the people during the night prayer in Ramadan, and there remain two rak'ahs. He said: "Make them from the last Isha." Sulayman asked: "As an opinion?" He said: "Yes, as an opinion." Sulayman said: "How, when they are in a voluntary prayer and I am in an obligatory one?" He said: "The congregation [makes it valid]."
