✧ Whoever Forgets a Prayer or Sleeps Through It

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَطَرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ: وَأَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ،
أَنَّ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَسِيرُ لَيْلَةً، وَأَخَذَهُ النَّوْمُ: تَنَحَّ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ، وَأَنِخْ، فَأَنَاخَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَخْنَا، قَالَ: فَتَوَسَّدَ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنَّا ذِرَاعَ رَاحِلَتِهِ، فَمَا اسْتَيْقَظْنَا حَتَّى أَشْرَقَتِ الشَّمْسُ، وَمَا اسْتَيْقَظْنَا إِلَّا بِصَوْتِ الصُّرَدِ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَلَكْنَا، فَقَالَ: لَمْ تَهْلِكُوا، إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ لَا تَفُوتُ النَّائِمَ، إِنَّمَا تَفُوتُ الْيَقْظَانَ قَالَ: فَتَوَضَّأَ، وَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَأَذَّنَ، وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ تَحَوَّلَ عَنْ مَكَانِهِ ذَلِكَ، ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ فَأَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا الصُّبْحَ
Translation
✧ Abu Qatadah said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me while we were traveling at night, and sleep had overtaken him: “Move off the road and make your camel kneel.” So the Messenger of God ﷺ made his camel kneel, and we made ours kneel. He said, “Each man of us leaned on the arm of his mount, and we did not wake until the sun shone brightly, and we woke only to the sound of a bird. We said, “O Messenger of God, we are ruined.” He said, “You are not ruined. Prayer does not escape the sleeper; it only escapes the one who is awake.” He said, “So he performed ablution, commanded Bilal to give the call to prayer, and prayed two rak‘ahs. Then he moved from that place, then commanded him and he gave the iqamah, and he led us in the morning prayer.”
