✧ Whoever Forgets a Prayer or Sleeps Through It

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ:
لَمَّا قَفَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ أَسْرَى لَيْلَةً حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ عَدَلَ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ، ثُمَّ عَرَّسَ وَقَالَ: مَنْ يَحْفَظُ عَلَيْنَا الصَّلَاةَ ؟ فَقَالَ بِلَالٌ: أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَجَلَسَ فَحَفِظَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَنَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ، فَبَيْنَا بِلَالٌ جَالِسٌ غَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنُهُ، فَمَا أَيْقَظَهُمْ إِلَّا حَرُّ الشَّمْسِ فَفَزِعُوا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَنِمْتَ يَا بِلَالُ ؟ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخَذَ نَفْسِي الَّذِي أَخَذَ بِأَنْفُسِكُمْ، قَالَ: فَبَادَرُوا رَوَاحِلَهُمْ، وَتَنَحَّوْا عَنِ الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي أَصَابَتْهُمْ فِيهِ الْغَفْلَةُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِهِمُ الصُّبْحَ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ: مَنْ نَسِيَ صَلَاةً فَلْيُصَلِّهَا إِذَا ذَكَرَهَا فَإِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ: ﴿وَأَقِمِ الصَّلاةَ لِذِكْرِي ﴾
Translation
✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ returned from Khaybar, he traveled at night until, when it was the last part of the night, he turned off the road and then halted to rest. He said, “Who will keep watch over our prayer?” Bilal said, “I will, O Messenger of God.” So he sat and kept watch over them. Then the Prophet ﷺ and his companions slept. While Bilal was sitting, sleep overcame him, and nothing woke them except the heat of the sun. They were startled, and the Prophet ﷺ said, “Did you sleep, O Bilal?” He said, “O Messenger of God, the One who took my soul took your souls.” He said, “So they hastened to their mounts and moved away from the place where the heedlessness had befallen them. Then he led them in the morning prayer. When he finished, he said, “Whoever forgets a prayer, let him pray it when he remembers it, for God, Exalted is He, says: “Establish prayer for My remembrance” [Q 20:14].”
