Translation
✧ Umar b. al-Khattab wrote to his governors: The most important of your matters to me is prayer. Whoever guards it and is constant in it guards his religion, and whoever neglects it is more neglectful of other things. Then he wrote: Pray Dhuhr when the shade is a forearm's length until the shadow of one of you equals his height; Asr while the sun is high, white and clear, for the time a rider travels two or three farsakhs; Maghrib when the sun sets; Isha when the twilight disappears until one-third of the night. Whoever sleeps, may his eyes not sleep; whoever sleeps, may his eyes not sleep. And Subh while the stars are visible and intertwined.
