عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ:
حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ كَانَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ فِي سَفَرٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُ مَاءٌ فَأَصَابَتْهُ جَنَابَةٌ فَقَالَ: أَتَرَوْنَا لَوْ رَفَعْنَا نُدْرِكُ الْمَاءَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ ؟ فَاغْتَسَلَ عُمَرُ، وَأَخَذَ يَغْسِلُ مَا أَصَابَ ثَوْبَهُ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ - أَوِ الْمُغِيرَةُ -: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَوْ صَلَّيْتَ فِي هَذَا الثَّوْبِ ؟ فَقَالَ: يَا ابْنَ عَمْرٍو - أَوِ الْمُغِيرَةُ - أَتُرِيدُ أَنْ لَا أُصَلِّيَ فِي ثَوْبٍ أَصَابَتْهُ جَنَابَةٌ ؟ فَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ عُمَرَ لَمْ يُصَلِّ فِي ثَوْبٍ أَصَابَتْهُ جَنَابَةٌ، لَا بَلْ أَغْسِلُ مَا رَأَيْتُ وَأَرُشُّ مَا لَمْ أَرَ
Translation
✧ Someone who was with Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ on a journey told me, and he had no water with him, and he was struck by janabah. He said: Do you think that if we set out we would reach the water before sunrise? Umar bathed and began washing what of the janabah had hit his garment. Amr b. al-As - or al-Mughirah - said to him: O Commander of the Faithful, if only you prayed in this garment. He said: O son of Amr - or al-Mughirah - do you want that I not pray in a garment that janabah has hit? Then it would be said: Umar did not pray in a garment that janabah had hit. No, rather I wash what I saw and sprinkle what I did not see.
