✧ Breaking the covenant and crucifixion

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ:
أَنَّ رَجُلًا يَهُودِيًّا أَوْ نَصْرَانِيًّا نَخَسَ بِامْرَأَةٍ مُسْلِمَةٍ، ثُمَّ حَثَا عَلَيْهَا التُّرَابَ، يُرِيدُ عَلَيْهَا عَلَى نَفْسِهَا. فَرُفِعَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " إِنَّ لِهَؤُلَاءِ عَهْدًا مَا وَفَوْا لَكُمْ بِعَهْدِهِمْ، فَإِذَا لَمْ يَفُوا لَكُمْ بِعَهْدِكُمْ فَلَا عَهْدَ لَهُمْ ". قَالَ: فَصَلَبَهُ عُمَرُ
Translation
✧ A Jewish or Christian man goaded a Muslim woman, then threw dirt on her, wanting her for himself. This was brought to Umar b. al-Khattab, and Umar said: "These people have a covenant as long as they fulfill their covenant with you. When they do not fulfill their covenant with you, they have no covenant." He said: So Umar crucified him.
