✧ The question of the People of the Book

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:
كَيْفَ تَسْأَلُونَ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ عَنْ شَيْءٍ، وَكِتَابُ اللهِ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِكُمْ مَحْضٌ وَلَمْ يُشَبْ ؟ فَهُوَ أَحْدَثُ الْأَخْبَارِ بِاللهِ، وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَكُمُ اللهُ عَنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ أَنَّهُمْ كَتَبُوا بِأَيْدِيهِمْ كُتُبًا، ثُمَّ قَالُوا: هَذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا، فَبَدَّلُوهَا، وَحَرَّفُوهَا عَنْ مَوَاضِعِهَا، أَفَمَا يَنْهَاكُمْ مَا جَاءَكُمْ مِنَ اللهِ عَنْ مَسْأَلَتِهِمْ ؟ فَوَاللهِ مَا رَأَيْنَا أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ يَسْأَلُكُمْ عَنِ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ
Translation
✧ How can you ask the People of the Book about anything when the Book of God that was sent down to you is among you pure and unadulterated? It is the most recent of reports from God. God has informed you about the People of the Book that they wrote books with their own hands and then said, 'This is from God,' to sell it for a small price. They altered it and distorted it from its proper places. Does not what has come to you from God forbid you from asking them? By God, we have not seen any of them asking you about what was sent down to you.
