أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
سَأَلْتُ عَطَاءً: الْمَجُوسُ أَهْلُ كِتَابٍ ؟ قَالَ: لَا، قُلْتُ: فَالْأَسْبَذِيُّونَ ؟ قَالَ: " وُجِدَ كِتَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَهُمْ، زَعَمُوا بَعْدَ إِذْ أَرَادَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ الْجِزْيَةَ مِنْهُمْ، فَلَمَّا وَجَدَهُ تَرَكَهُمْ قَالَ: قَدْ زَعَمُوا ذَلِكَ
Translation
✧ I asked ʿAṭāʾ: Are the Magians People of the Book? He said: No. I said: What about the Asbādhiyyūn? He said: "The letter of the Prophet ﷺ to them was found, or so they claimed, after ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb wanted to take the jizya from them. When he found it, he left them alone. He said: They claimed that."
