✧ A polytheist does not enter Medina

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ قَالَ:

لَمَّا طُعِنَ عُمَرُ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى النَّاسِ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ فِيهِمْ عَلِيٌّ، فَقَالَ: أَعَنْ مَلَأٍ مِنْكُمْ كَانَ هَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: " مَعَاذَ اللهِ أَنْ يَكُونَ عَنْ مَلَأٍ مِنَّا، وَلَوِ اسْتَطَعْنَا أَنْ نَزِيدَ مِنْ أَعْمَارِنَا فِي عُمُرِكَ لَفَعَلْنَا ! " قَالَ: " قَدْ كُنْتُ نَهَيْتُكُمْ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْهُمْ أَحَدٌ

Translation

✧ When Umar was stabbed, he sent to the people among the Muhajirun, including Ali, and said: Was this from a group of you? Ali said: “God forbid that it would be from a group of us, and if we could add from our lifespans to your lifespan, we would do so!” He said: “I had forbidden you that any of them should enter upon us.”
