"Messenger of Allah went out and I went with him. He entered upon a woman from the Ansar. She slaughtered a sheep and he ate from it; and she brought a basket with ripe dates and he ate from it. Then he performed Wudu for Zuhr and prayed. Then he finished, so she brought him something from the remainder of the sheep. So he ate it, then prayed Asr and did not perform Wudu."

machine translationHe said: On this topic there are narrations from Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, Ibn ʿAbbās, Abū Hurayrah, Ibn Masʿūd, Abū Rāfiʿ, Umm al-Ḥakam, ʿAmr b. Umayyah, Umm ʿĀmir, Suwayd b. al-Nuʿmān and Umm Salamah. Abū ʿĪsā said: The hadith of Abū Bakr on this topic is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) because of its chain of transmission. It was only narrated by Ḥusām b. Miṣakk, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq, from the Prophet ﷺ. The authentic version is only from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet ﷺ. This is how the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrated it. Abū ʿĪsā said: The practice in accordance with this is held by most of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, the Followers and those after them, such as Sufyān al-Thawrī, Ibn al-Mubārak, al-Shāfiʿī, Aḥmad and Isḥāq. They held that wuḍūʾ is not required after eating what fire has touched. This was the later of the two matters from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and it is as though this hadith abrogates the first hadith, the hadith on wuḍūʾ after eating what fire has touched.
