Abū ʿĪsā said: It is the opinion of more than one of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, the Followers and those after them, such as Aḥmad and Isḥāq. They said: The urine of a baby boy is sprinkled with water, and the urine of a baby girl is washed, and this applies as long as they have not started eating food; once they have eaten food, both are washed.

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Shuʿayb b. Abī Ḥamzah narrated it from al-Zuhrī from Umm Qays as a mursal report (mursal). Ibn ʿUyaynah, Ibn Jurayj, Maʿmar, Ziyād b. Saʿd and Yūnus b. Yazīd contradicted him; they narrated it from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah from Umm Qays, and this is more sound (aṣaḥḥ). In the report of Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from ʿUbaydullāh, it says that Umm Qays came to the Prophet ﷺ, so it would be mursal, and the connected (muttaṣil) version is more sound.
