حَدَّثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ شَبِيبٍ، قَالَ: نَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: نَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ - ﷺ

كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ لِكُلِّ صَلَاةٍ حَتَّى كَانَ يَوْمُ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ ; فَإِنَّهُ صَلَّى الصَّلَوَاتِ بِوُضُوءٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: إِنَّكَ صَنَعْتَ الْيَوْمَ شَيْئًا لَمْ تَصْنَعْهُ، فَقَالَ: عَمْدًا صَنَعْتُهُ يَا عُمَرُ

Translation

✧ He used to perform ablution for every prayer until the day of the conquest of Makkah, for he prayed the prayers with a single ablution and wiped over his leather socks. ʿUmar said to him: "You have done something today that you have not done before." He replied: "I did it deliberately, O ʿUmar."
