machine translationHe said: On this topic there is also a narration from Ibn ʿAbbās. Abū ʿĪsā said: The ḥadīth of ʿAlī is a good and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ) ḥadīth, and it is the view of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, the Followers, and those after them. They disliked recitation [of the Qurʾān] during bowing and prostration.

machine translationI asked my father about a hadith narrated by al-Zuhrī, Usāmah b. Zayd, Nāfiʿ, Ibn Isḥāq and al-Walīd b. Kathīr, from Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdillāh b. Ḥunayn, from his father, from ʿAlī: "The Prophet ﷺ forbade me to recite while bowing" (the hadith). And it was narrated by al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. ʿUthmān, Dāwūd b. Qays al-Farrāʾ and Ibn ʿAjlān, from Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdillāh b. Ḥunayn, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from ʿAlī. Which of the two is correct? My father said: Those who narrated from his father did not say "I heard ʿAlī" except some of them, and these three are of unknown reliability (mastūr), and an addition is accepted from a trustworthy narrator (thiqah). Ibn ʿAjlān is trustworthy (thiqah), and al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. ʿUthmān is not strong (laysa bi-l-qawī). Usāmah was not satisfied until he narrated from Ibrāhīm, and then narrated from ʿAbdullāh b. Ḥunayn himself, and Usāmah is not strong (laysa bi-l-qawī). My father said on another occasion: al-Zuhrī is the better memorizer.

machine translationAl-Nasāʾī narrated, by way of Nāfiʿ, from Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdullāh b. Ḥunayn, from his father, from ʿAlī, a ḥadīth on the prohibition of wearing qasiyy garments. It was said [it is] from Nāfiʿ, from ʿAbdullāh b. Ḥunayn, from ʿAlī, and it was said [it is] from Nāfiʿ, from Ḥunayn, from ʿAlī. The first is closer to being correct: Nāfiʿ, from Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdullāh b. Ḥunayn, from his father, from ʿAlī.
