"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! We expect to meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives.' So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'As long as it causes blood to flow, and Allah's Name has been mentioned over it, then eat it, provided that it was not done with a tooth or nail. And I will tell you why: As for the tooth it is a bone, and as for the nail it is the knife of the Ethiopians.'"

machine translationAbū al-Aḥwaṣ erred in this when he said "from his father, from his grandfather." Al-Bukhārī in the Ṣaḥīḥ omitted the words "from his father," so it became "from ʿAbāyah, from his grandfather Rāfiʿ," and this is the correct version.
in جامع الترمذي, p. 1581 - Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī
machine translationAl-Thawrī and others narrated this hadith and did not say in it "from his father." I said: Which of the two is more sound? He said: Al-Thawrī is more retentive (aḥfaẓ).
